Nipsey Hussle: Not just a rapper

A dreamer, an activist, a doer, a hustler, a man and a father. This is what most people would say about Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey Hussle’s life was violently robbed jus recently. His dreams were bigger than hip-hop. Nipsey was making positive changes in a volatile, hostile environment he was raised in, Crenshaw, South LA.

Nipsey was not only known for his rapping but also for his good will. This is a man who invested a lot of his personal wealth in his community and he never left. He was known to buy shoes for students. He repaved basketball courts and freshened up playgrounds. He provided jobs and shelter for the homeless, and he paid for funerals for those who struggled to bury their loved ones.

He invested in a mile-long stretch of rotating and permanent art installations called Destination Crenshaw; helped renovate an old rink that was one of the establishments responsible for birthing West Coast hip-hop. He was also planning on redeveloping a strip mall into a mixed-use property that would include low-income apartments. He opened up a creative space in Crenshaw called Vector 90 he even planned to launch STEM Programs for inner-city kids.

It’s devastating that a bright light was taken out right in front of his establishment that he worked hard for. He always tried to better his neighbourhood and hopefully the things he did for his community would inspire others to follow his blueprint. Rest In Power Nipsey.
